Floors:
I strongly recommend, where possible, to have non-carpet flooring. Cleaning is so much easier & it's so much healthier.
Bathroom:
We spend a lot of time in the bathroom. Thank goodness that with the door open you can be part of the family room. I do wish we'd been able to make the bathroom larger where I can sit in a comfortable chair. We also have our tv on a tilt where Ethan can see the TV from the tub.
Handles/knobs:
Our son has a lot of trouble with his hands. We installed levered door handles & tried to find cabinet pulls that could be opened with minimal finger involvement.
Heat & A/C:
We had the most energy efficient heat pump we could get installed when we built our house. I've found it humbling to pay so much more for energy now that we have a small window of acceptable temperatures. We had a HEPA filter put on the system instead of a regular filter (and it is not much more at all & doesn't have to be changed as frequently). We all have allergies & this has helped. We recently (summer 08) had a whole house humidistat placed on the heat pump that works with A/C or heat & Ethan's skin has been the best it ever has been. It has helped phenomenally. If anyone is interested in the model we had installed, let me know (info@ichthyosis.us)
